5 Boudoir Photography Business Tips You May Not Know About

After being in the boudoir photography business for over 10 years, I’ve learned a thing or two. And mostly, by trial and error. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping other boudoir photographers grow their businesses — so they don’t have to make the same mistakes I did!

I’m not saying there’s a fast track to success, but it sure does help when you can pick up some tips from someone who’s been in your shoes before.

And in this post, I’m going to show you a few not so well known tips that I learned along the way. You’ll learn how to streamline the backend, better your client experience, and ultimately, grow your biz!

Boudoir Photography Business Tip #1: Batch Work

One thing that’s super important to me is having time off. I want to be able to spend time with my family, and enjoy a life outside of work. So, to help with that, I batch my work, which includes my photography sessions.

I typically only schedule a few days of the month so I can knock them all out in one go. With this schedule, it means I work in my photography business for one to two weeks max (inlcuding the business stuff, not just client work) and get two weeks off.

I can live further away from my studio because I don’t need to be there every day. And I can stay in shooting mode, selling mode, or marketing mode without having to switch hats in my business.

All this helps me stay focused and efficient when I am actually working!

Boudoir Photography Business Tip #2: Create a Posing Sequence

Having a posing sequence was easily one of the BEST things I’ve ever implemented in my business. I used to get super nervous before a client session, but having this set of poses in my back pocket eliminated some of the uncertainty (and nerves, of course!).

But I know what you’re thinking…“Won’t that make my sessions TOO similar?”

That’s the thing — your clients want what you advertise. That’s why they’re booking with you! So go into every session with a sequence of poses you can easily replicate with each client. It will save you SO MUCH time and creative energy.

You can leave the last 10-15 minutes to shoot some images that you can get creative with. That way, you end up running a session that’s efficient, fun, AND creatively fulfilling!

Boudoir Photography Business Tip #3: Become an Affiliate

Did you know that as photographers, we can sign up to become an Amazon Affiliate? That means you can make a small commission off of qualifying purchases from items in your storefront.

Here are some of the qualifications:

  • Have a blog that’s been active within the last 60 days
  • Have at least 500 followers per social media channel
  • Make three sales within the first six months of approval

And it’s worth it! I bring in anywhere from $200-$500 a year in affiliate income from my Amazon shop. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but that’s money I made without lifting a finger.

You can link your favorite boudoir photography outfits, props, or anything else you feel like your client may need.

Then, you can drop that link in your blogs, throughout your website, or send it to someone directly if they ask for recommendations!

Boudoir Photography Business Tip #4: Try Zoom

My husband travels a lot for work, and when I first met him, I wasn’t really working from home all that often. But, I did know that I wanted to travel alongside him eventually, so I needed to change a few things about my business in order to do that.

Before, I was running my ordering sessions in person the week after my sessions. But with the help of Zoom, I was able to bring them all online.

Now, you might think that Zoom ordering sessions could cause lower session sales. But that hasn’t been the case at all! In fact, my sales are right at my sales average and I’ve broken my high sales record MULTIPLE times. It all lies in the experience you give your clients, whether in person or online.

If you want an easier way to run your ordering sessions though, and more opportunity to work from home, consider adding Zoom ordering sessions to your arsenal!

Boudoir Photography Business Tip #5: Try a Bridal Fair

Ever thought of going to a bridal or vendor fair? If not…you totally should. These are PACKED FULL of your ideal clients!

For example, if your ideal client is a bride and you attend a bridal fair as a vendor, you can usually meet anywhere from 100-2000 of potential clients. Where else could you meet that many clients at one time?

But does it actually translate to bookings?

Well, to give you an idea…one of my coaching clients went to a bridal fair a few weeks ago and booked 23 clients in one day! And I’ve done something similar, with 17 bookings in a day.

And while bookings depend on many different things, I hope this gives you a peek into how successful these places can be.
