036. Why Facebook Ads Don’t Work as a Photographer

I’ve built my business without facebook ads, and to be honest with you… I’ve hardly used facebook to grow my business at all. Seems crazy, right?

Let me say, I do firmly believe you do need to have a Facebook business profile. But your sole focus should not be on Facebook, Facebook groups, or to be honest, even Instagram.

This coming from the girl who loves Instagram, I know…

Facebook ads, Facebook groups, and model calls will keep you hustling for the entire life of your business.

Instead your focus should be on a well rounded marketing plan.

Your life outside of your business and your budget will thank you in the long run!

In this episode, I lay out WHY I didn’t build my business using Facebook ads, the marketing strategies I actually used, and how it’s working now.

I had no money early in my business

Early on in my photography business, I had little to no money to spend freely on Facebook ads, which frankly, may or may not work.

I couldn’t gamble the little money I did have on a Facebook ad, just hoping that it would reach the right client at just the right time who would want to book a session.

I had to get creative.

In this episode, I share with you how I had to market my business in a way that was affordable, unique, but also booked out my photography schedule.

I needed clients in order to pay my bills.

With little to no money to gamble on ads, and while working a full time job, I had to come up with a creative and streamlined way to market my business.

The strategies that I implemented were very low cost, but brought in thousands of dollars!

Here’s a list of a few of the things I implemented–that worked!

  • Blogging
  • Email marketing
  • Running strategic sales–e.g. Black Friday
  • Working with other businesses for referrals
  • Asking for referrals from previous clients
  • Boudoir marathons
  • Boudoir mini sessions–ran as a marketing strategy

I didn’t have a lot of free time, but I wanted my business to work, so I made time anyway… no excuses.

Facebook groups, Facebook ads, and model calls are NOT the only way.

I didn’t do any marketing in 2022 and still booked 52 clients with a sales average of $2,900 and brought in $150K in 18 days total!

Maybe you’re wondering, “How is that possible”?

Well, it’s because of the streamlined marketing strategies I implemented 3-6 years ago.

Facebook groups, facebooks ads, and model calls are a short term win.

Those strategies might get clients in your world right now, but they are not sustainable strategies.

The strategies that I share with you throughout this episode are strategies that are built for long term success. The main focus of these strategies is to book photography clients for years to come.

Want step-by-step, pause and implement access to these strategies?
